Going nowhere fast

This is how I feel somedays. Just kidding. Saw this in a small western Kansas town a few years back. It is amazing what you see when you get off even the smallest of two lane highways.

Delicate Death

A crabapple tree in my front yard is dying -
The long, slender branches and limbs -
soon devoid of leaves -
create delicate shadows
on the blistering sidewalk
adjacent to the cool green grass -
I will miss it -
I will replace it -
One day, I will be replaced -
But will I be missed?

Wise men of wilson

Went to the Czech Festival in Wilson Kansas a few years back. These fine fellows were sharing stories at the corner cafe.

This photo caused a little controversy when exhibited. A guest at the gallery wanted to know why I took it and why I showed it. I told her because we see death every day and choose to ignore it...not just as individuals, but as a society. She asked if I took photos of rape, too. I laughed and told her look, it's not like I found the dog and took it around trying to find the best shot. It was there. I took the photo. It was a slice of time that stands as a metaphor for much more.

My friend KL reminded me that I hadn't posted in a while. New job...very busy. But I am preparing for a photo show in the next Final friday here in Wichita and had been working on this image. Taken at a construction site in downtown Wichita late at night.

I used to work for a company that designed zoo exhibits. Took this on a trip. Magnificent examples of the theory of evolution and natural selection.
